John Wenger (Bill Murray Bill Murray), whose house was rained all night, was not only fired, but his girlfriend left him now. John, who has no way ahead, persuades his good friend Rossell (Harold Ramis Harold Ramis) to sign up for the army on impulse. They think of the barracks as an ideal place to reinvent themselves, but they do not expect that they are trained by a stubborn and impatient Sergeant Huka (Warren Oates Warren Oates), and their teammates are mediocre and incompetent, often doing a lot of humiliating things. In order to pursue the beautiful and sexy female gendarmerie Stella (PJ Soles P.J. Soles) and Louise (Sean Young Sean Young), they snatch a high-tech military car, accidentally enter the Soviet Union and get involved in an international incident.
