This film is actually a literary film about the complex feelings between the big star and his entourage. The story is set in Britain during World War II. Albert Finney plays a famous stage hero, but his stubborn temper is also amazing. Only Tom Courtney's sidekick can cure him. For decades, the master and servant cultivated a special feeling that was not told by outsiders, and the troupe was still held up in an unideal wartime condition until the big star's dry lamp dried up. Director Peter Yates gave full play to his personal skills, making the slightly unpopular and narrow-minded troupe film rich in drama, and the two veteran British actors played against each other. Five nominations for Best Picture and Best Actor at the Academy Awards in 1984, four nominations for Best Actor at the Golden Globe Awards in 1984, and seven nominations for the British Film Academy Awards in 1985.
