Before the 1970s, rock music was still dominated by men, and even though it had influence all over the world, all-women's rock bands never appeared. 18-year-old Joan Jett (Kristen Stewart Kristen Stewart) is a rebellious girl who is crazy about rock music. She has always longed to form a women's rock band. With the help of agent Kim Foley (Mike Shannon Michael Shannon), they find 15-year-old Cherie Curry (Dakota Fanning Dakota Fanning), a girl from Southern California who loves David Bowie as the lead singer. After that, guitarist Rita Ford (Scout Taylor-Compton), drummer Sandy West (Stella Maeve) and Beth Jackie Fox joined the team one after another, and the all-girl band "Escape" was officially established.
