In 1898, silver miner Daniel Plainview (Daniel Day Lewis Daniel Day Lewis) broke his leg in an underground accident, but he learned secret oil information in disguise. He used the dumb boy HW (Dillon Fraser Dillon Freasier) to deceive the villagers to win the oil site, and has prospered ever since. However, he is not happy to become an oil tycoon, HW's resentment against him grows with each passing day, and the only brother he knows is a fake. The missionary Eli Sandy was just a little man who was demagogic by religion. Daniel's workers were killed in a mining accident. Based on the novel Oil, director Paul Thomas Anderson won the Silver Bear Award for best director at the 58th Berlin Film Festival. Daniel Day Lewis won the actor title at the 80th Academy Awards.
