In August 1945, in the small village of Fogdo, Miyazaki can be seen across the sea, the third-year junior high school boy Yasuo Rikao (played by Hanamoto) was recuperating at his grandparents' home. Kangfu saw his friends leave in the air raid and suffered from pneumonia, so he bid farewell to his parents in Manchuria and came here. Although grandmother (Zuo Shizhi) is kind, grandfather Chung-tak (Yoshio Harada) is a very strict old man, which makes Kangfu's country life boring and depressing. By this time, Japan had been defeated, and the soldiers withdrawn from the Chinese mainland entered the village to train day and night in preparation for the final battle with the US military. Adults who have experienced the baptism of war have their own worries and troubles. On the other hand, the young Kang Fu, who did not know the taste of sorrow, spent a happy summer because of the girls who grew up together. This film won the Best Picture, Best Director and Best New Artist Award in 2003.
