Esso (Eddie Murphy) is a famous man in both black and white circles in Detroit. As a police detective, he also does some tricks from time to time. Moreover, when investigating cases, he often does not follow procedures, and his superiors have a lot of headaches for him. On this day, Esso was almost expelled for blackmailing a cigarette vendor. Fortunately, he was spared trouble by good luck. Esso ran into a friend who had just been released from prison, who had come to Detroit with huge amounts of German bonds. Shortly after the two reunited, Esso's friend was murdered. Knowing that this matter was not easy, Aisol began an investigation. He alone tracked suspect Victor to Beverly Hills in Hollywood. Just as he was about to come forward for questioning, he was taken back to the police station by the local police. When Esso investigated and learned that Vidoc was indeed trafficking drugs, the local police chief agreed to intervene in the investigation, but sent Esso back to his hometown. Esso had to persuade a local police officer, Billy (Judge Reinhold), to cooperate with him, and the two began a private investigation.
