Laura (Celia Johnson Celia Johnson) lives a simple and happy life: a husband who loves her and a pair of lovely children. Every Thursday she is used to taking the train to go shopping in a nearby place. That day, in a small restaurant near the railway station, with her eyes blown into the sand, she got the help of doctor Alec (Trevor Howard Trevor Howard). A few days later, she met the doctor again in the restaurant. Because there was not enough table, the two sat down to eat together and talked to each other very happily. It turns out that the doctor is also married and comes to the local hospital here every Tuesday to help. The two agreed to meet again next week. Frequent meetings and companionship make two married people more and more eager to see each other, they know that they are in love. But this kind of love was doomed not to last long at that time, even if they loved each other deeply, they had to part in the end. Alec told Laura that he was going as far away as South Africa, leaving behind the delirious Laura. This film is adapted from No ë l Coward's one-act play "Still Life".
