1996 Venice Film Festival Luigi De Laurentiis Award 1997 Seattle International Film Festival New Director Award introduction: this seemingly simple and documentary film depicts the personal root search of Palestinian patriotic filmmaker Elia Suleiman. The film is divided into two parts. The first part records the absurd and silent Arab region in the ancient city of Nazareth. The second part looks at the city from a relatively political perspective, and Elia Suleiman plays a more active role in this part. He came to his birthplace to look for inspiration, but what he saw were miserable images of the Arab people mired in a crisis of cultural identity. The most obvious example is an Arab girl who wants to gain a more independent status than traditional women in her town, but cannot do so because of the prejudice of the people living in the ghetto.
