In the early 20th century, Bill (Richard Gill Richard Gere) was originally a factory worker who had to leave the factory because of a fight. He left Chicago with his girlfriend Abby (Brooke Adams Brooke Adams) and sister Linda and found a job harvesting wheat in a wheat field in Texas. Bill and Abby pretend to be brother and sister. A young farmer (Sam Sharp Sam Shepard), who is also the owner of the farm, is attracted to Abby. At the same time, he finds himself terminally ill. In order to steal the farmer's property, Bill asked Abby to marry the farmer. Unexpectedly, in the day-to-day relationship, Abby also fell in love with the farmer. On the other hand, the unusual interaction between Abby and Bill also made farmers extremely unhappy. So Bill left the wheat field. After a while, Bill came back, and the farmer finally couldn't stand it and walked to Bill with a gun. The film won an Oscar for best cinematography and was nominated for best costume and best soundtrack.
