Eric, a famous director of German immigrants. Feng. Stroheim spent $1.3 million and 11 months to make a super literary film, which was originally copied for five hours and condensed into three and a half hours when it was released to the public. Because of the astonishing cost, the Hollywood tycoon was critical of Eric, but gave up because of the film's unexpected success at the box office. The story is set in Monte Carlo in 1919. Eric plays a Belarusian prince who deceives the daughter of an American diplomat and makes a living by exploiting his mistress-an ugly maid. Driven by a sadist, he raped an unfortunate idiot woman. In the end, he was killed and his body was symbolically thrown into the gutter. Eric has a special fondness for naturalism and hopes to show all the love history in the picture. He specially set up the casinos and magnificent palaces in Monte Carlo on the coast of California, and has a very bold way to deal with the lighting. The images were also full of sensational and violent scenes, and even bothered the electric inspection unit to cut some of the scenes. In the film, Eric observes human beings with a poignant pessimism and fiercely criticizes the decadence and feudalism of the upper class.
