Christina (Kathleen Sass Kathrin Sass) is a heartfelt supporter of Socialist East Germany, where her husband has fled to West Germany, leaving her to raise a pair of children Ariana (Maria Simon Maria Simon) and Alex (Daniel Bruch Daniel Br ü hl). In 1989, Alex was arrested in a street parade. His mother witnessed the scene and fainted from a heart attack. She was unconscious for a long time. When she woke up, the country she knew had changed-the Berlin Wall fell down and socialism in democratic Germany collapsed. The doctor said Christina could not be stimulated any more. So the son tried to create a past world for his mother. As a result, my mother was able to live in the GDR of the past: including neighbors' clothes, television news, and canned Soviet food. However, it is impossible for Alex to cover up the huge real world with good intentions. Finally, the son told his mother about the changes in East Germany in his own way.
