The combination of musician George (Gérard Depardieu) and landscape enthusiast Branti (Andie MacDowell) is entirely out of their own selfish interests: George is from France and wants to get an American green card to develop his career here; Branti takes a fancy to an apartment but is told that only couples can move in. As a result, the two hit it off, each got what they needed, and quickly returned to their unrelated lives after getting married. Suspicions from the U.S. Immigration Service followed. They had seen many cases of fake marriages for a green card, and the marriage between George and Blonti naturally couldn't escape their attention. Strict and serious investigation intervened in the lives of this "couple". Now, George and Bronte must plan a perfect love and marriage process, creating detailed evidence of life together. In order to make the marriage more credible, George even moved into Blonti's home, but the two gradually pretended to be real.
