A trial surrounding Karl's guilt began after a construction worker named Carl Wayne was arrested on suspicion of killing seven people. Before the trial began, twelve jury members, including Tommy Greens, Principal Wesley, Corporal Swees, Mrs. Ruth, Miss Monica, and Frank, an environmentalist, gathered in front of the courthouse to hear the Carl Wayne case. Tommy, who is usually short-circuited, lives in a slum with his mother. Just as he was looking for a job without a reason, and when his mother and Uncle Jed, who picked up garbage for a living, traveled and got married, Tommy was accidentally selected to the jury and became a juror in Carl's case. Due to the great public anger in the Karl case, and considering the need for the trial, the jury had to be temporarily isolated from the outside world. Tommy, along with 11 other jurors, was placed by the Justice Department in a holiday hotel under renovation. The boring trial made 11 jurors except Tommy hope to end the trial and leave the noisy holiday inn as soon as possible. But Tommy doesn't think so. He was able to move into the Holiday Inn from the slums with no work, accommodation and food. Although the noise of the hotel decoration seriously affected Tommy's normal rest, Tommy hoped to be on vacation.
