Jack Stanton is a governor of the South. He is a born politician, and everything he does is subordinated to the supreme goal of being finally elected president of the United States. With the full support of his capable wife, he won the favor of many voters in the Democratic presidential battle in 1992, and some even compared him to Kennedy. However, over time, many stains in Jack's private life were exposed: evading military service, getting a teenager pregnant and other dishonorable things were exposed, and the campaign used all sorts of means to cover up these scandals. Then Henry Burton appeared. He is a black-and-white hybrid, his grandfather was a famous civil rights leader, and he himself worked hard in politics a long time ago. The whole film looks at the whole process of the campaign from his perspective.
