Based on the novel by Andrew Michael Hurley, this film explores the inherited trauma and loss in a world ruled by supernatural folklore. Set in rural England in the 1970s, Richard and Juliet live an idyllic family life. This stability falls into chaos when their son Ivan begins to show personality disorder, creating an insurmountable estrangement for the once-happy couple. In their remote hometown of Starve Acre, archaeologist Richard struggles to explore a folklore-the ancient oak trees on their land are filled with extraordinary power. As his wife Juliet seeks some peace in the local community, Richard is obsessed with digging deeper, an unexpected discovery quickly catches the couple's attention, and dark and sinister forces unknowingly enter the home, providing them with disturbing possibilities for reconnecting.
