The Book of the Dead

The Book of the Dead 6.7

Japan in the Nara era in the middle of the eighth century. Kyoto aristocratic Fujiwara Nanjia's daughter (voiced by Rihui Miyazawa) believes in the Dharma. On this day, he got a precious sutra from his father. Lang and her daughter sat upright and respectfully copied Buddhist sutras. As the cold winter passed, when one hundred Buddhist sutras had been copied, she vowed to complete a thousand copies. During this period, the husband and daughter had no intention to catch a glimpse of the golden Buddha light blooming on the opposite hill, and became more confident in their hearts. When she finished copying, she ran away from the storm as if she were out of her mind and broke into Dangma Temple, which is forbidden to women. That night, she learned about the legend of Prince Otsu, who was beheaded 50 years ago because of a plot. The prince had an obsession before he died, which made him unable to live beyond life for a long time. Soon, the husband and daughter met her soul and vowed to cross over this sad undead. This film is based on the novel of the same name created by folklore expert, and won the Special Award of the jury of Zagreb International Animation Film Festival.
