As a result of a heart attack, Jax (Brian Cox Brian Cox) is once again admitted to the hospital. Lying in his hospital bed, he knows that his time is running out, but the bar he runs has no successors. In the hospital, Jax meets a dispirited and depressed young man Lucas (Paul Dano Paul Dano), who comes here because of an attempted suicide. Lucas's situation made Jax sigh very much. Under an unknown impulse, Lucas became the successor in Jax's mind. Jax took in Lucas and taught him how to manage a bar step by step. Lucas was smart and diligent and could soon be on his own. At the same time, there was a solid and sincere friendship between him and Jax. One day, a beautiful woman named April (Ishler Basco Isild Le Besco) shows up in the bar, begging Jax and Lucas to provide her with a hiding place, but this is clearly a violation of Jax's "no women allowed to enter the bar" rules, but Lucas does not think so, and their relationship is at an impasse.
