Paul Lenny's Wax Man Pavilion, filmed in 1924, is widely regarded as the last work of expressionism. This work uses a narrative structure similar to that of the weary Reaper, in which the owner of a wax museum invites a writer to make up a story for his wax figure. The writer wrote three stories: the story of the caliphate, the story of Ivan Reddy and the story of Jack Horror. The first is almost entirely born out of the "weary god of death", the second is about tyrants in Russian history, and the third is even more bizarre, basically a combination of two demons in modern British history, Jack the spring legs and Jack the Ripper, both of which are unsolved cases in history. It is said that they are messengers of hell, bloodthirsty and serpent savages in the world. At the end of the film, even the writer himself is hunted by Jack. I think the source of those horror movies about serial killers can be traced back to here.
