After three years of Nazi siege, Leningrad, covered with corpses, became a city of death. British female journalist Kate Davis (Mira Sorvino Mira Sorvino) is separated from her lover, American journalist Philip Parker (Gabriel Bourne Gabriel Byrne) and trapped in Leningrad during an interview at the front. Kate, who is isolated and helpless, is lucky to be helped and sheltered by Leningrad volunteer policewoman Nina (Olga Suturova Olga Sutulova). The two men clung to the flames of war in the ice and snow, fighting for survival with the starving Soviet army and people.
