The Story of A Fei is set in Glasgow in the 1970s, where Ned is an abusive word used by people to refer to "uneducated little punks". John, the protagonist of the film, is an energetic young man, but the road is not his own choice. For director Peter Mulan, the subject matter is personal, but it is not an autobiographical film. The film won Best Picture Golden Shell and Best Actor at the 2010 San Bastian Film Festival in Spain. The film is Mulan's first production eight years after winning the Venice Golden Lion in the Sisters of Green Mansions, which was unfortunately defeated in Venice and was well received in Toronto.
