Bob Wilden (Ivan McGregor Ewan McGregor) is an American journalist with a failed marriage who comes to the Middle East in despair to try to sneak into Iraq to cover the war in order to win back his ex-wife. In Kuwait, Bob meets Lynn Cassadi (George Clooney George Clooney), a private builder he has heard of in previous interviews, and begs the latter to take him across the border. Lynn was a special force of the US Army's Earth Spirit Force, seeking "Jedi superpowers" under the special training methods of hippie Bill Dianger (James Bridges Jess Bridges), a Vietnam veteran, to defeat the enemy with spirit; until the addition of soldier Larry Hopper (Kevin Spacey Kevin Spacey) changed the training policy of the Earth Spirit Force. Bob followed Lynn through a series of ironic accidents and events in Iraq. Does Lynn really have "Jedi powers"?
