The story of "Tony" is adapted from the story of four Italian immigrants working as miners in a small town in southern France. The clue is provided by the local police chief and then transferred. Renoir and a friend's processing co-wrote the screenplay. The film tells the story of a murder case caused by love and hatred. The whole story structure is like a domino. Jealousy is the driving force to roll it. Although the story itself is not very new, director Renoir shows the limitation and parochialism of the poor in character from the point of view of paying attention to the real inner world of small potatoes, and discusses the whole process and root causes of the tragedy. The film was shot in real life, with local residents acting as extras, so a simple story was told naturally and vividly, which had a certain impact on the later Italian neo-realism movement.
